Schools & Institutions

At Kvitaavatn Fjellstue we have a long tradition for accommodating schools and institutions both summer and winter. We are used to serving big groups. The large common rooms are well-suited for gatherings before or after your planned activities in the area. It is possible to book accommodation with full board and adapt the menu to young people, or you can book accommodation with self-catering. In low season the price is affordable for most schools.

The Fjellstue has 225 beds at your disposal of various price categories.

Common rooms: conference room for 25-30 persons, a small cinema, games room with table tennis and table football. 2 large fireplace lounges for 50 and 75 people respectively.

In the main building you will find a dining hall for 100 persons. Dinner may be arranged in two sittings, if you are more than 100 persons. For schools the dining hall can be used for gatherings. And we have two large guest kitchens accommodating 50 and 75 people respectively.

Winter activities

Kvitaavatn Fjellstue is situated in the middle of the cross-country skiing area with a ski stadium and a circuit for evening skiing. The ski hire can deliver 200 pairs of cross-country skis quickly and effectively, and you will be on skis without delay. We offer group discounts of ski hire for schools, and we have snow shoes for mountain walking for those who cannot ski.

Downhill skiing is also a possibility. The Gaustablikk Ski Centre is only 200 metres away from the Fjellstue. They also offer discounts for groups/schools.

Summer activities

In the summertime schools can use canoes and kayaks, a disc golf course, shelters and bonfires by special arrangement with the Fjellstue. Most schools arrange a manageable hiking trip to the peak of the Gaustatoppen. If your students do not manage hiking, there is a train inside the mountain, which can take them to the top. Here you can experience one of Norway’s most beautiful views.

Or take the Krossobane (cable car) to Rjukan Klatrepark, where the students can get a challenge in different climbing paths in the fantastic surroundings.

Activities all year round

On VisitRjukan you can find information about activities in the area. Rjukan is situated 16 km from the Fjellestue. The area is known for Heavy Water production, and the history of the Norwegians’ sabotage of the Nazi attempt during WW2 to produce an atomic bomb is fascinating. We highly recommend the series “The Heavy Water War” when you prepare for your school camp at the Fjellstue. You will find a lot of interesting material in the area for schools.
