    Travel info

    There are many ways to get to Kvitåvatn.

     

    By car

    See map above or use Google maps at the bottom of the page.

     

    NOTE! Road no. 651 – via Tuddal – is closed in winter.
    If you are coming from Notodden, the navigation will most likely ask you to drive straight on at the junction E134 / 361 via Hjartdal and Tuddal. Here you have to turn right even though the navigation disagrees, as the summer road over Tuddal is closed.

    If you want to search on the GPS, it is best to search for Gaustablikk Høyfjellshotel. We are located 300 meters after the hotel. 

     

    By plane to Oslo

    There are public transport options to Kvitåvatn for travelers by plane from resp. Gardermoen Airport, Moss Airport Rygge and Sandefjord Torp Airport. 

     

    From the Airports/Oslo by public transportation

    Information about public transport can be seen on VY’s website.

    It is possible to take a bus or train from Gardermoen Airport. There are not so good connections on the weekends, but ok connection on weekdays. Tickets can be purchased online or on the VY app. If you travel by bus, you must change bus in Notodden. If you travel by train, you must change to a bus in Kongsberg.

    It is also possible to get to Kongsberg by train from Sandefjord Airport. From Sandefjord Torp Airport it is possible to travel to Rjukan via Porsgrunn. There are trains and buses from the airport to Porsgrunn, and from there there is a connection to Rjukan.

     

    Mountain bus from/to Rjukan

    In the winter period, between Christmas and Easter and in the high season in the summer, there is a connection from Rjukan to Kvitåvatn / Gaustablikk with Fjellbussen.

     

    It is also possible to take a taxi from Rjukan. Phone: +47 3509 1400.

     

    GaustaEkspressen drives you from the destination to Gaustabanen / Gaustatoppen in the high season both summer and winter.

     

    By bus from Copenhagen

    There are several different bus companies that run between Copenhagen and Oslo. See more here:

    By Ferry

    Color Line runs ferries from Hirtshals to Larvik (3hrs 45 minutes) and from Kiel to Oslo (20 hrs).

    Stena Line runs ferries from Frederikshavn to Oslo (8½ hrs).

    Fjordline runs ferries from Hirtshals to Langesund (4½ hrs).
