At Kvitaavatn Fjellstue we offer you various types of accommodation.

 

In the winter season we mainly sell full board accommodation with a minimum stay of five days and arrival on Saturdays or Sundays.

In week 7 and 8 only stays of 7 days can be booked.

 

In the summer season we sell short or long stays. Some guests prefer self-catering in our well-equipped guest kitchens, other guests order single meals or take full board at the Fjellstue.

 

At the Fjellstue we have comfortable common facilities which may accommodate your next conference, club gathering, family reunion or holiday camp. Please read more on this page and contact the Fjellstue for further information.

 

We have different types of rooms and cabins. You can choose for a new Panorama room with balcony and separate bathroom or for a historic timber hut and experience a genuine Norwegian atmosphere. The timber huts are without kitchens. You can book directly on our online booking system or contact the Fjellstue for further information about the different types of accommodation.

The Fjellstue

Panorama rooms

10 bright south-west facing family or double rooms, completely renovated 2014, with private balcony and panoramic view towards the Gaustatoppen. The panorama rooms have 4 beds, 2 folding bunk beds and 2 box beds (double bed or single beds), a work place and a private bathroom. The panorama rooms are situated close to the common rooms – appreciated by many guests. Free WIFI.

Common rooms: 2 big modern fireplace lounges and a dining hall with panoramic view towards The Lake Kvitåvatn and the Gaustatoppen.

In addition, a conference room, a small cinema and a games room.

You will also find men’s and a women’s saunas, a family bathroom, drying facilities and a laundry.

Classic rooms

6 north-west facing family rooms in original, simple but functional standard with 6 bunk beds and a sink. The rooms are popular with large families looking for affordable holiday accommodation. These rooms have shared toilets and newly renovated men’s and women’s bathrooms in the corridors. The rooms are close to the common rooms. Free WIFI.

Dorm room

The dorm room has 12 beds, which can be booked separately. Shared toilets and showers in the corridor.

Common rooms: 2 big modern fireplace lounges and a dining hall with panoramic view towards The Lake Kvitåvatn and the Gaustatoppen.

Modern cabins

6 modern rooms with a stylish private bathroom, a large panorama window and an open loft area. The rooms are situated in three cabins. Each room has its own entrance.

The rooms are 16 m2 each. They have high-beamed ceilings and plenty of light from the large panoramic windows – the rooms seem light and airy. There are 5 beds with two box mattresses on the ground floor and two box mattresses plus an extra mattress in the open loft. The rooms have a drying cabinet and an electric kettle. Free WIFI.

The rooms are designed for guests who prefer individual accommodation, but with access to the many common facilities in the Fjellstue or in the guest kitchens. The cabins have been built in the summer 2007.

Timber huts

All the timber huts are traditional Norwegian timber huts picked up from their original places in the mountain area and rebuilt by hand in the Kvitaavatn area, and then restored on the inside.

The cabins Nos. 60, 61, 62 and 64 have private interior bathrooms.

The small cabins Nos. 51, 53, 55, 58, 59 and 63 have shared bathroom and toilet facilities. The shared toilet building is downstairs of hut No. 63.

 

The timber huts are intended for guests who prefer individual accommodation – with access to all the common facilities in the main building or the guest kitchens. Free WIFI in all the huts.

Odd Eliassen’s House

Odd Eliassen’s House is a building with 6 rooms with an open loft. Each room has its own entrance, a small hallway, a bathroom with a shower cabinet, a terrace door and a panoramic view to the Gaustatoppen.

Each room has 5 beds: a double bed with 2 box mattresses on the ground floor and 3 mattresses upstairs in the open loft. The rooms are light and airy. The furniture is a coffee table, a desk with two chairs and an armchair. Each room has an electric kettle. Free WIFI.

 

The house was built by Odd Eliassen in 1974. 3 years earlier he had joined an international Mount Everest expedition. In April 1985 Odd Eliassen and Bjoern Myrer-Lund were the first Norwegians and Scandinavians to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Since then, the house has been renovated to its present standard.

Arne’s House

Arne’s House has 10 rooms with an open loft and a view to a natural resort plus a small north-west facing room. You will find men’s and women’s bathrooms and shared toilets in the corridor. Arne’s house has a family sauna with entrances from both bathrooms. The building has a shared drying room.

All rooms have 4 beds: 2 bunk beds and a sofa on the ground floor and 2 single beds in the open loft. The small room has 2 bunk beds. All the rooms have a sink with hot and cold water and a small armchair. Free WIFI.

 

Arne’s House was built in 1982 on request from The Royal Marines, UK. Arne – with the surname Bjoerberg – was a Swedish carpenter and constructing architect from the Swedish city Uddevalla. He was responsible for building the house. Arne was a keen mountaineer and for many years he took part in various construction jobs at Kvitaavatn.

The food

Please relax and enjoy your holiday meals with a panoramic view towards the Gaustatoppen! We serve wholesome and good, plain food.

The kitchen is open from late June to mid-October and from Christmas to Easter. In the summer season and in low seasons self-catering is possible in our well-equipped shared guest kitchens.

 

Summer

We offer you full board or single meals. Guests from outside the Fjellstue may buy meals at the Fjellstue. Single meals or full board must be ordered in advance on telephone: +47 35092040 or email: kvitaavatn@kvitaavatn.no

Dinner must be ordered by 10.30 am on the same day, breakfast and lunch packet by 9.00 pm.

Breakfast consists of a buffet with homemade bread. Breakfast may be with or without lunch packet (self-made from the breakfast buffet). Dinner is a three-course buffet consisting of soup, salads, a main course and dessert. Free tap water, syrup, tea and coffee. Soft drinks, beer and wine can be bought at the reception. We also sell ice-cream and chocolate. View prices on meals.

Accommodation with full board gives you a price reduction, inclusive of free coffee, tea and squash 24 hours a day.

Winter

In the winter season we offer full board. In the beginning and in the end of the winter season you might be able to book accommodation with self-catering in the shared guest kitchens. Please contact Kvitaavatn for this. Full board consists of a breakfast buffet with homemade bread, a self-made lunch packet and a three-course dinner with a vegetarian option, free coffee, tea and syrup.

Common facilities in the main building

In the main building of the Fjellstue you will find the reception, the dining hall and two modern fireplace lounges with balconies and terraces. From the main building there is a stunning view towards the Lake Kvitaavatn and the Gaustatoppen.

The main building was drawn by Ragnvald Bing Lorentzen after presentations from Roderick Farndon Tuck, who built the Fjellstue in 1972.

Self-catering kitchens

The self-catering kitchens are at your disposal in the summer season. Here you can cook and eat your own food in a homely atmosphere. The kitchens fit groups or families preparing their meals together. Outside high season you can rent the kitchens for private arrangements. In the winter season the self-catering kitchens are closed – except for the first weeks of January.

 

The Tun (Old timber huts’) Kitchen

The Tun Kitchen is situated close to the old timber huts. The kitchen seats up to 24 persons and has 2 stoves, ovens, a refrigerator, an industrial dishwasher, coffee machines, electric kettles and other usual kitchen equipment. You will find a freezer in the hallway.

 

The guest kitchen

The guest kitchen is situated close to the modern cabins. It has a kitchen and seats 55 persons in one room. It has 3 stoves, an industrial oven, refrigerators, an industrial dishwasher, freezers, coffee machines, electric kettles and other usual kitchen equipment.

Dogs

The area of Gaustatoppen and Kvitaavatn is perfectly suited to be explored with dogs. Your dog is welcome at the Kvitaavatn Fjellstue, but you must contact the Fjellstue in advance to book a cabin or a room intended for dogs. We fully understand that not everyone is fond of dogs. Therefore, we have the following rules for dogs at the Fjellstue:

 

  • Dogs are allowed in certain timber huts, modern cabins or rooms, Arnes’s House and the Odd Eliassen house
  • Dogs are not allowed in the main building or in the guest kitchens
  • Dogs must be registered when booking.
